The original Palace Theatre, designed by legendary theatre architects the Rapp Brothers, opened at the corner of Randolph and LaSalle Streets on October 4th, 1926. The theatre opened originally as the flagship of vaudeville’s Orpheum Circuit, featuring stars such as Bob Hope, Mae West, and Jack Benny.
The theatre’s stunning interior featured a lobby with huge decorative mirrors and white marble, great wall surfaces enhanced with gold leaf and wood decorations, and plush, roomy seats.
Throughout its history, the 2,500 seat theatre has acted as a vaudeville theatre, movie palace, banquet hall, rock venue, and Broadway theatre.
In 1999, the venue was completely restored and renovated and reopened as the Cadillac Palace Theatre. Since then, the theatre has been the home to several hits, including The Producers, Mamma Mia!, The Lion King, The Color Purple, Mary Poppins, Shrek the Musical, and Aladdin!
